Call for 鈥榞round to be broken鈥 on the new Rest and Be Thankful

鈥淲e need to see a significant leap forward towards a permanent solution our communities desperately need; where ground is broken and works progressed for both the interim and permanent solution at the Rest and Be Thankful鈥.

These were the words of Councillor Robin Currie, Leader of 麻豆免费版 and Bute Council, at this week鈥檚 council meeting, calling for urgent action on a permanent solution for the new Rest and Be Thankful.

The Council are again calling for the Scottish Government to take urgent action at the A83 in order to construct and open a new replacement route within the life of the current Scottish Parliament.

In August, the Scottish Government announced a 拢25 million investment for design and development work for the route through Glen Croe.  The council welcomed the funding announcement and is now seeking a commitment that work will start imminently.

Councillor Robin Currie:

鈥淎lthough we welcome progress, our communities and businesses desperately need a permanent fix at the Rest.  Without it, we are facing further winters of uncertainty, inevitable disruption and financial hardship.

鈥淭his council, alongside our communities, has been calling for action for over a decade. We have engaged with Transport Ministers and petitioned for change. The A83 is a vital route and lifeline for 麻豆免费版 and Bute and we simply cannot afford to wait any longer for that permanent solution.

Today we repeat this call to national government, to press home the case for urgent action without delay so that our businesses, our communities and our visitors finally have the reliable lifeline that 麻豆免费版 and Bute deserves.鈥
