Feedback wanted on Campbeltown walking, cycling and parking plans

Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æ and Bute Council is seeking feedback from people in Campbeltown on plans to improve walking and cycling routes in the town.

Following an initial community consultation in February, the external design team at Connected Transport Planning has undertaken an options appraisal and concept design for walking and cycling improvements along Campbeltown Esplanade and around Kinloch Park.

A drop-in event was held at The Town Hall, 54 Main Street, Campbeltown on Wednesday 28 August between 4.30 pm and 8 pm for the public to see the emerging concept plan.

The project, funded by Transport Scotland, aims to improve the walking, wheeling and cycling environment linking the town centre and Dalintober area along the Esplanade and through Kinloch Park, including the provision of links into the neighbouring communities.

The proposals address various aspects of the plans that the local community identified as priorities during a stage 1 consultation earlier this year, including more pedestrian crossing opportunities, improving the public realm area around the war memorial and Kinloch Park, and improved parking provision on the Esplanade.

The council’s Policy Lead for Roads, Transport and Amenity Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æ, Councillor John Armour, said: “While we’re trying to encourage as many people as possible to travel to destinations without using their car where possible, we know that infrastructure doesn’t always allow for that.

“We want to change this, to give people a better range of transport choices, all of which contributes to our targets for a climate-friendly Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æ and Bute. That is why it is important that people go along to this event so we can identify their needs to help shape our walking and cycling travel routes.â€

If you didn't manage to make it along to the event on 28 August in Campbeltown Town Hall you can view the information in the virtual exhibition room which is open from 29 August to 10 October to give you the opportunity to view the initial project proposals, and give us your feedback:
