The group considered an updateÌý from Charlie Cairns, Area Manager - Lower Clyde Greenspace.

 

Green Gym

 

Charlie Cairns highlighted that due to inclement weather, the gym had only been operational for 6 days.Ìý Anna Hamilton, who co-ordinated the activities, had reported on a low turnout from Helensburgh. However, volunteers from Glasgow had been in attendance.

He reported that a further advertising campaign would be initiated with posters and flyers being disseminated locally. He described the work which was currently being undertaken in the Wood which included some tree cutting.

 

 

Decision

 

The Committee agreed to note the update.

The group considered a report from Charlie Cairns, Area Manager - Lower Clyde Greenspace which provided an update to the group on various initiatives within Duchess Wood.

 

Green Gym

 

Charlie Cairns outlined dates for the Green Gym:

The leader would be Anna Hamilton.

 

Further discussion followed in regards what arrangements were in place to get referrals from the relevant medical professionals. Charlie Cairns confirmed that he was meeting with Sam Campbell, NHS Health Improvement Team to take this forward effectively and also to disseminate promotional material to local surgeries.

 

Employability Team

 

Charlie Cairns highlighted that time constraints with the Employability team meant they would be unable to undertaken work at the bridge west of the Pony Field.

ÌýDavid Lewin drew attention to forthcoming work being undertaken in that area by the Community Pay Back Team and he enquired if funding could be provided to meet the cost of materials.Ìý Charlie Cairns advised that David should make contact with Stuart McCracken, Â鶹Ãâ·Ñ°æ and Bute Amenity Performance Manager for the local area in regards funding.

Verbal Update by Charlie Cairns

Mr Cairns advised the Committee of email correspondence he had with the Forestry Commission and the Conservation Trust.Ìý He advised that he had been encouraged to make a new bid for the green gym.Ìý He outlined the programme in terms of applying to the Seedcorn Fund and timescales involved with a proposed start date in October 2014.Ìý

 

Discussion in terms of advertising, with referrals being identified as the most likely route to securing numbers was had.Ìý

 

Ms Martin suggested that once funding and start dates had been established, she could place an advert in the jobs section of the Helensburgh Advertiser outlining a volunteer opportunity.Ìý She advised that this would be free and would be a good way of advertising.Ìý

 

The Committee noted the update; and agreed to the Green Gym being taken forward and noted that an early review of the programme may take place at the end of November.
